About this Course

In today's interconnected world, organizations and communities are becoming increasingly diverse. Embracing diversity can lead to innovation, creativity, and increased productivity, but it also brings challenges, including potential conflicts. The Diversity and Conflict Management course is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills to navigate the complexities of diverse environments while effectively managing and resolving conflicts that may arise.

Upon completion of this course, participants will possess the skills and confidence to effectively manage diversity in the workplace, interpret and resolve conflicts, and conduct negotiations to reach mutually beneficial resolutions. This course is presented through a collaborative effort between the SA Legal Academy and the SA Accounting Academy.


Learning Objectives

By completing this course, you will:

  • Learn how to foster a culture of diversity and equity while capitalizing on the unique strengths diverse teams bring.
  • Understand the root causes of conflicts and gain insights on how to identify, analyze, and categorize various workplace conflicts.
  • Explore different conflict resolution models, including avoidance, accommodation, collaboration, competition, and compromise, to choose the most suitable approach for specific situations.
  • Learn negotiation techniques, strategies, and tactics to navigate challenging workplace situations.

Course Delivery, Duration, and Effort

SA Legal Academy delivers this online short learning program course. This course is divided into 4 modules. In this way, you can maintain a work-life balance while studying a just-in-time course to upskill yourself. The required effort is 4 hours per week.

This course is intended for all persons (such as heads of department, section heads or divisional heads, who may have more than one team reporting to them) who need to:

  • manage a diverse work force to add value;
  • interpret and manage conflicts within the workplace;
  • conduct negotiations to deal with conflict situations; and
  • create and maintain effective teams.

Lecturer

Annelien Feldtmann CA(SA), Neuro-Coach

Annelien is a Neuro-Coach and Chartered Accountant (SA) with 21 years of experience in the public and private sector. She is deeply passionate about people development and has been actively involved in various roles to assist individuals to become the professionals they dream to be.

Her roles include the following:

  • She is a qualified Executive, Business and Career Neuro-Coach (clients in the USA; UK and South-Africa) and have also provided mentorship to dynamic females in the public sector in the USA as well as Jamaica.
  • She is the chairperson of the Assessment Committee (which is responsible for the final qualification examination) of the South African Institute of Taxation (SAIT) and also a SAIT assessor (reviewing the compliance with the learnership requirements and logbook compliance);
  • She was a SAICA Reviewer ; SAICA Training Officer and is a registered assessor with in-depth knowledge of the SAICA Competency Framework and learnership requirements. She was a committee member of TRECO and AMS (now TPSC);
  • She was the Senior Manager – Trainee Auditor Scheme who managed the three auditing and accounting learnerships (SAICA; SAIGA and ACCA) within the Auditor-General of South Africa (AGSA) and has in-depth knowledge of the practical challenges, roles and responsibilities of employers and trainees;
  • She has been involved in distance learning institutions and even compiled the curriculum transformation competency framework for the College of Accounting Sciences at the University of South-Africa (UNISA); and
  • She managed a UK based professional development company as well as a South-African based study support organisation.

Prerequisites / Admission Requirements

There are no prerequisites to attend this course.


Assessments

All formative assessments are conducted online. Candidates must achieve all competencies of the course. To achieve the course, learners must be declared competent in all assessments.


Certification

Successful completion (i.e. competence in all modules) of this course will lead learners to be awarded a Certificate of completion.
