Artificial intelligence and emerging technologies are transforming the way organisations collect, process and use data, creating new opportunities while introducing complex legal, ethical and governance challenges.
Clients are deploying systems that profile, generate, infer and decide. POPIA was not drafted with these systems in mind and the legal practitioner's professional duty does not end where the statute does.
Join Nicolene Schoeman-Louw on 29 September 2026, from 10h00 to 12h00, as she explores the legal and ethical implications of AI and emerging technologies, providing practical guidance on responsible data governance, regulatory compliance and professional obligations when advising clients in an increasingly AI-driven environment.
Attending this webinar will equip you with the following skills:
· The data ethics principles underpinning the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 ("POPIA"), read against the GDPR and the OECD AI Principles.
· The risks of AI, machine learning, biometric processing, the Internet of Things and algorithmic decision-making (bias, transparency and accountability among them).
· Governance in practice: lawful processing, consent, purpose limitation and data minimisation in an AI context.
