2027/28 BUDGET REVIEW: NATIONAL TREASURY CALLS FOR TECHNICAL TAX PROPOSALS

National Treasury’s routine annual call for technical tax proposals in anticipation of the next Budget review has come two months earlier than usual – and well before this year’s Medium Term Budget Policy Statement, which is scheduled to be tabled on 21 October 2026.

The specific issues on which input is sought and the format to be followed in making submissions nevertheless remains the same.

According to the media statement concerned, proposals for possible inclusion in Annexure C of the 2027 Budget Review should once again be confined to:

  • unintended anomalies
  • revenue leakages
  • loopholes, and
  • matters in the prevailing tax legislation requiring correction.

The statement includes the format for submissions, which should be made by 30 September 2026. Virtual workshops are scheduled to take place on 29 and 30 October 2026.
