2ND ADJUSTMENTS APPROPRIATION ACT GAZETTED FOR 2O22/23

The Second Adjustments Appropriation (2022/2023 Financial Year) Act has been gazetted – the Bill concerned having been signed into law within three days of being passed by Parliament.

According to a National Assembly Standing Committee on Appropriations report tabled in the House on 17 March 2023, the Act provides for additional allocations of:

  • R1bn to the Department of Public Enterprises ‘for a settlement agreement reached between the South African Airways businesses rescue practitioners and the airline’s creditors … (regarding) a gradual payment of historical debts’
  • R2.4bn to the Department of Communications & Digital Technologies ‘for the recapitalisation of the South African Post Office SOC Limited’
  • R5bn to National Treasury ‘for the purchase of equity from the Land & Agricultural Development Bank of South Africa’
  • R300m to the Department of Home Affairs for supporting ‘the operation of political parties’, and
  • R4.5bn to cover ‘the carry-through costs of the 2022 public service wage increases’.
