ACCOUNTING STANDARDS BOARD: OPPORTUNITY TO INFLUENCE INTERNATIONAL FOUR-YEAR STRATEGY

In the context of International Public Sector Accounting Standards Board (IPSASB) proposals for its next four-year strategy and work programme, the local Accounting Standards Board (ASB) has gazetted a notice calling for input by 31 January 2024 on what is envisaged.

According to a more detailed cover note published on the ASB website, the draft strategy includes ‘developing international public sector sustainability reporting standards’.

With that in mind, the opportunity to comment enables South Africa to:

  • ‘influence the direction’ of IPSASB work, which ‘has a potentially significant impact’ on ASB activities, and
  • raise issues:
    • experienced in developing economies, as well as
    • those unique to the South African environment.
