AFRICAN RENAISSANCE & INTERNATIONAL CO-OPERATION FUND ACT: INPUT SOUGHT ON DRAFT AMENDMENT BILL

The Department of International Relations & Co-operation has called for input by 24 September 2023 on a draft African Renaissance & International Co-operation Fund Amendment Bill.

Among other things, it deals with:

  • the appointment and functions of a chief executive officer
  • associated conditions of employment
  • staff-related matters
  • the ‘utilisation of money’
  • conflicts of interest, and
  • the investment of unexpended funds.

It is proposed that the African Renaissance Agency should be renamed as the South African Development Partnership Agency. This is noting that its purpose is to enhance co-operation between South Africa and other countries – in particular African countries – ‘through the promotion of democracy, good governance, the prevention and resolution of conflict, socio-economic development and integration, humanitarian assistance and human resource development’.
