AIR QUALITY MANAGEMENT PLAN REGULATIONS OUT FOR COMMENT

The Department of Forestry, Fisheries & the Environment has called for input by 16 April 2023 on draft regulations for implementing and enforcing air quality management plans in approved priority areas.

According to the accompanying Government Gazette notice, once in force the proposed new regulations will:

  • make the implementation of prescribed interventions mandatory
  • ensure that enforcement measures are activated in situations of non-compliance, and
  • facilitate plan effectiveness monitoring and evaluation by designated government authorities.

They will apply to all ‘significant contributors to poor air quality’, including controlled emitters, stakeholders performing listed activities, mining operations and state entities.
