ANTI-CORRUPTION MEASURES: MINISTER OUTLINES STEPS TO CLOSE GAPS

The 2016 discussion document ‘Towards a national anti-corruption strategy’ is being reviewed, according to Justice & Correctional Services Minister Ronald Lamola. His speech at a recent criminal justice administration reform conference also refers to:

  • work already under way on the ‘modalities’ of establishing an ‘anti-corruption entity’, and
  • ‘comparative research’ on ‘incentivising’ whistle-blowers to serve as witnesses in criminal cases (as recommended in the state capture commission report).

The revised discussion document will be released for public comment, although when it is not clear from the Minister’s speech. Neither does it mention the 2020-2030 national anti-corruption strategy already in place for some time.
