APPROPRIATION BILL, 2026/27: FINAL OPPORTUNITY FOR SUBMISSIONS

In anticipation of a final round of parliamentary hearings on the 2026/27 Appropriation Bill, the NCOP’s Appropriations Committee has issued a notice calling for written submissions by 8 June 2026.

Tabled with the 2026/7 Budget, the Bill:

  • provides for allocations to national government departments, institutions and entities for the 2026/27 financial year, and
  • prescribes conditions in terms of which funds may be withdrawn for the 2027/28 financial year and spent before required legislation is tabled, processed and enacted.

Yet to be passed by the National Assembly, the Bill is still under consideration by the committee concerned. At the time of writing, briefings from various departments and entities were still under way.

Since an annual Appropriation Bill is rarely if ever changed by a parliamentary committee, the entire process appears to be something of a formality.
