ATMOSPHERIC EMISSIONS: INPUT SOUGHT ON PROPOSED CHANGES TO LISTED ACTIVITIES

The Department of Forestry, Fisheries & the Environment has gazetted draft amendments to the list of detrimental emissions-related activities and minimum emission standards determined under the 2004 National Environmental Management: Air Quality Act. This is noting that listed activities have negative implications not only for the environment and ecological conditions but also for human health and socio-economic conditions, as well as for cultural heritage. The deadline for input by 28 September 2025.

According to an accompanying notice, the intention is to:

  • improve the ‘efficacy’ of licensing and reporting requirements
  • clarify certain provisions with the aim of improving compliance
  • strengthen pollution prevention and emission minimising measures, and
  • address issues related to court orders.
