The Department of Employment & Labour has gazetted a notice adjusting the earnings threshold above which certain provisions in the Basic Conditions of Employment Act, 1997, will soon no longer be applicable. From 1 April 2025, the new annual earnings threshold will be R261 748,45 (two hundred and sixty-one thousand and seven hundred and forty-eight rand, forty-five cents) – excluding certain deductions and employer contributions stipulated in the notice.
Sub-section 6(3) of the Act empowers the Minister to determine to which category of employees specific working time regulatory prescripts should not apply, based on their earnings.
