BIODIVERSITY ECONOMY: REVIEWED STRATEGY OUT FOR COMMENT

Please note: On 8 March 2024, the department gazetted a notice announcing a new deadline for input, which is now 22 March 2024.

The Department of Forestry, Fisheries & the Environment has gazetted a notice calling for input by 30 March 2024 on a draft reviewed strategy for the national biodiversity economy.

Underpinned by the 2023 White Paper on the Conservation & Sustainable Use of South Africa’s Biodiversity, the proposed new strategy focuses on growth and transformation not only in the context of sustainable use, but also noting the fundamental importance of:

  • equitable access and benefit sharing, and
  • enhanced biodiversity conservation.

The document includes a draft implementation plan with related ‘enablers’.
