CHICKEN IMPORTS: ITAC RECOMMENDS CONTINUATION OF ANTI-DUMPING DUTIES ON US BONE-IN PORTIONS

The International Trade Administration Commission has gazetted a final determination following its sunset review investigation into the likely impact of lifting anti-dumping duties on frozen bone-in chicken portions originating in or imported from the United States.

The investigation was prompted by material evidence in support of an application from the South African Poultry Association (SAPA) calling for a continuation of the anti-dumping duties concerned. The application was made on behalf of the Southern African Customs Union (SACU) poultry industry and pointed not only to the likely continuation of dumping, but also material injury to the broader SACU poultry industry should anti-dumping duties be suspended.

Begun in November 2022, the investigation concluded that these fears were well-founded. As a result, the Commission recommended to Trade, Industry & Competition Minister Ebrahim Patel that existing anti-dumping duties should remain in force. According to the Government Gazette notice, the Minister has endorsed this recommendation.
