CHILDREN'S AMENDMENT BILL RETURNED TO NATIONAL ASSEMBLY

The NCOP has endorsed minor changes to the Children's Amendment Bill proposed by its Health & Social Services Committee. These changes are technical but must nevertheless be approved by the National Assembly Committee on Social Development before a 'D' version of the Bill can be passed and sent to the President for signature. This version is not yet available. Once in force, the Bill is expected to provide a comprehensive legal solution to challenges faced by the foster care system, as ordered in 2017 by the Gauteng High Court (Pretoria).

  • parliamentary papers confirming the Bill's return to the National Assembly
  • NCOP committee report recommending minor technical changes (page 93 of the papers)
  • Bill's 'B' version (not reflecting changes approved by the NCOP)
