CLIMATE CHANGE: INPUT SOUGHT ON LICENCE, AUTHORISATION APPLICATION GUIDELINES

The Department of Forestry, Fisheries & the Environment has called for public comments on a revised set of draft guidelines potentially affecting environmental authorisation, waste management licence and atmospheric emissions licence applications. The deadline for input is 23 November 2025.

Once finalised, the proposed new guidelines are expected to ensure that climate change and its implications are factored into development project planning from its earliest stages.

Incorporating some of the input received on a first draft released in June 2021, the revised draft guidelines cover:

  • general principles underpinning the involvement of a climate change specialist in the environmental impact assessment process
  • the scope and context of a climate change impact assessment
  • applying impact mitigation measures
  • addressing direct, indirect and cumulative impacts
  • climate change adaptation, and
  • environmental management programme requirements.
