CLIMATE CHANGE: INPUT SOUGHT ON UNFCCC-RELATED 2nd BIENNIAL TRANSPARENCY REPORT

The Department of Forestry, Fisheries & the Environment has gazetted and called for public comments on a draft report prepared in terms of South Africa’s obligations as party to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change – and in keeping with enhanced transparency framework requirements under the 2015 Paris Agreement. This is in anticipation of finalising the document for submission in December 2026 as the country’s second biennial transparency report.
With that in mind, the deadline for input is 20 November 2026.
According to its covering notice, the draft report includes:
- information on South Africa’s national circumstance and institutional arrangements
- an updated national greenhouse gas inventory
- details of progress towards meeting the country’s nationally determined contribution to reduced greenhouse gas emission reduction
- mitigation policies and measures
- climate change impacts and related adaptations, and
- ‘support needed and received’ in the context of:
- financial commitments
- technology development and transfer, and
- capacity-building.
