CO-OPERATIVE GOVERNANCE: INPUT SOUGHT ON DRAFT DISTRICT DEVELOPMENT MODEL REGULATIONS

The Department of Co-operative Governance & Traditional Affairs has called for public comments by 4 September 2023 on draft regulations intended to frame the district development model’s institutionalisation.

Once operationalised, they are expected to facilitate the co-ordination and synchronisation of local intergovernmental development planning, prioritisation, budgeting and programme/project implementation. This is noting that the district development model’s overarching objective is to arrive at a single district- or metropolitan-specific plan to guide government and private sector investment in the area concerned.

Against that backdrop, the draft regulations cover:

  • institutional arrangements
  • the procedures to be followed in developing and adopting a plan, and
  • monitoring the implementation process.
