The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) has issued a media statement intended to clarify a recent, confusing flurry of Government Gazette notices on two new market inquiries: one planned and another now under way.
SA Legal Academy reported on the original notices and has since updated the information concerned.
According to the ICASA statement, an over-the-top services impact inquiry is still on the cards but will be announced ‘at a later date’ – with ‘greater context and clearer guidance for public participation’.
Meanwhile, the communications affordability inquiry is now in progress – beginning with the release of a questionnaire for completion and submission by 14 October 2026.
