COPYRIGHT, PERFORMERS, TRANSPORT, ROAD TRAFFIC BILLS LEAVE PARLIAMENT

Parliamentary papers have confirmed that the following Bills have been passed by both Houses and sent to the President for signature:

  • the Copyright Amendment Bill’s ‘F’ version (among other things introducing fair use as the policy approach underpinning copyright law in South Africa, and addressing certain issues raised in the Copyright Review Commission report, 2012)
  • the Performers’ Protection Amendment Bill’s ‘F’ version (among other things intended to address issues raised in the Copyright Review Commission report, 2012)
  • the Economic Regulation of Transport Bill’s ‘D’ version (establishing ‘two parallel independent but integrated regulatory agencies’ for the entire transport sector), and
  • the National Road Traffic Amendment Bill’s ‘D’ version (intended to ‘achieve (the) proper implementation of … the Road Safety Strategy and address practical challenges’).
