COURT RULES: LATEST AMENDMENTS GAZETTED

On behalf of the Rules Board for Courts of Law, the Department of Justice & Constitutional Development has gazetted two sets of amendments to rules affecting Magistrates’ Courts and one set affecting provincial and local divisions of the High Court. Effective from 4 July 2025, they are as follows:

  • amendments to the Magistrates’ Courts rules, with implications for:
    • expert witnesses
    • applications brought ex parte
    • document copying, and
    • intermediaries’ fees/travel allowances/other expenses
  • amendments to the Magistrates’ Courts rules, with implications for:
    • notices served by defendants and opposers, and
    • mediation fees
  • amendments to High Court rules, with implications for:
    • disputes to be referred for mediation
    • mediation fees
    • intermediaries fees/travel allowances/other expenses
    • attorneys’ fees for drawing up certain documents, and
    • document copying.
