COURT RULES: LATEST AMENDMENTS GAZETTED

On behalf of the Rules Board for Courts of Law, the Department of Justice & Constitutional Development has gazetted two sets of amendments to rules affecting Magistrates’ Courts and one set affecting provincial and local divisions of the High Court. Effective from 4 July 2025, they are as follows:
- amendments to the Magistrates’ Courts rules, with implications for:
- expert witnesses
- applications brought ex parte
- document copying, and
- intermediaries’ fees/travel allowances/other expenses
- amendments to the Magistrates’ Courts rules, with implications for:
- notices served by defendants and opposers, and
- mediation fees
- amendments to High Court rules, with implications for:
- disputes to be referred for mediation
- mediation fees
- intermediaries fees/travel allowances/other expenses
- attorneys’ fees for drawing up certain documents, and
- document copying.
