CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE: INPUT SOUGHT ON DRAFT REGULATIONS

The Civilian Secretariat for Police Services has gazetted draft regulations for public comment in anticipation of repealing and replacing interim arrangements in force since 5 May 2023. The deadline for input has been set at 1 September 2023.

Once finalised and published, the proposed new regulations will give practical effect to the Critical Infrastructure Protection Act, 2019, some sections of which commenced in April 2022.

The interim regulations focus on establishing the Critical Infrastructure Council, along with its functions and related procedures.

In addition to this, the draft replacement cover:

  • other institutional arrangements
  • classifying and declaring infrastructure as critical
  • categorising critical infrastructure
  • security policy development and planning
  • inspections, and
  • security personnel.
