DEEDS REGISTRATION ACT: REGULATORY AMENDMENTS GAZETTED, IN FORCE SOON

The Department of Agriculture, Land Reform & Rural Development has gazetted further amendments to regulations under the 1937 Deeds Registries Act. Scheduled to come into force on 4 April 2025, they have implications for:
- the meaning of the term ‘in arrear’
- the lodgement of certain documents
- identity verification
- the use of the term ‘share’
- security-related consent, and
- lost and/or destroyed documents
Among other things, several amendments align the existing regulations with requirements under the recently commenced 2019 Electronic Deeds Registration Systems Act.
