The Department of Land Affairs & Rural Development has gazetted the procedurally required pre-tabling explanatory summary of an Electronic Deeds Registration & Recordal Systems Amendment Bill.
Approved by Cabinet at its meeting on 1 July 2026, according to a media statement issued at the time the proposed new piece of legislation is ‘largely technical in nature’. Its overarching objective is to ‘modernise the legislative framework governing deeds registration and recordal systems’, thus:
To that end the Bill proposes amendments to the 1937 Deeds Registration Act, 1986 Sectional Titles Act and 2019 Electronic Deeds Registration Act.
