The Independent Electoral Commission has called for input by 30 September 2025 on an electronic voting discussion document apparently available since 12 March 2025. Circulated among attendees at an e-voting conference, the document was not publicised at the time.
This is according to the consultation timeframe included in an undated notice posted recently on the Parliamentary Monitoring Group (PMG) website.
Exploring the feasibility of introducing e-voting technologies in South Africa, among other things the discussion document also seeks to ‘dispel some of the most enduring and common myths, fears and claims about e-voting’.
The public consultation timeframe refers to the preparation of a Green Paper in March 2026 in anticipation of submission to Parliament.
