The Department of Forestry, Fisheries & the Environment has gazetted two sets of norms with which those responsible for constructing new or expanding existing battery storage and solar photovoltaic facilities will be expected to comply when applying for exclusion from environmental authorisation requirements before beginning the necessary work. Each set of norms:
- is the outcome of stakeholder consultations begun in November 2023 with the release of draft exemption proposals, and
- forms part of ongoing efforts to streamline the environmental impact assessment process in the context of energy generation, transmission and distribution technology and grid infrastructure development.
