ENVIRONMENTAL AUTHORISATIONS: INPUT SOUGHT ON BATTERY STORAGE, SOLAR EXEMPTION PROPOSALS

The Department of Forestry, Fisheries & the Environment has called for input by 15 December 2023 on proposals for exempting certain activities from environmental authorisation requirements under the National Environmental Management Act, 1998. The granting of an exemption would be subject to compliance with related draft norms on which input is also sought.
The activities concerned and draft norms are associated with the development and expansion of:
These proposals are made in the context of ongoing efforts to streamline the environmental impact assessment process in the context of developments in energy generation, transmission and distribution technology and grid infrastructure.
Each set includes the forms on which exemption applications would be submitted.
