ESSENTIAL SERVICES: PRE-SCHOOL AND ELEMENTARY EDUCATION TO BE ADDED TO LIST?

The Essential Services Committee is investigating the merits or otherwise of declaring pre-school and elementary education services essential. According to a notice gazetted by the Department of Employment & Labour written submissions are sought on this matter in anticipation of a series of nationwide workshops. The deadline for input is 7 February 2025.

Should pre-school and elementary education services be designated essential under the 1995 Labour Relations Act, as amended, persons providing them will be prohibited from participating in strikes, lockouts and associated activities other than in certain circumstances.
