EXPLOSIVES ACT: INPUT SOUGHT ON DRAFT REGULATIONS

The Department of Police has gazetted a notice calling for comment by 24 November 2024 on draft regulations under the 1956 Explosives Act.

Published separately on the department’s website, once finalised the proposed new regulations will, among other things, affect:

  • applying for various types of authorisation, permit or licence
  • manufacturing, export, import and transit
  • packaging and labelling
  • harbour and airport-related activities and requirements
  • transport and storage
  • mine-specific activities and requirements
  • blasting
  • testing
  • safety devices
  • tertiary education institution laboratories
  • ammunition-related activities and requirements
  • pyrotechnics, and
  • sport rocketry.

A separate chapter is dedicated to black and smokeless powder, and another to ammonium nitrate.
