EXTENSION OF SECURITY OF TENURE REGULATIONS TO BE REPLACED

The Department of Agriculture, Land Reform & Rural Development intends repealing the existing regulations, which have been in place since November 1998. With that in mind, draft replacement regulations have been gazetted for comment by 8 December 2022. The Extension of Security of Tenure Act allows government to facilitate a mutually responsible relationship between peri-urban land owners and/or rural farm owners - and anyone living on the land concerned with the express or tacit consent of the owner or person in charge. Affecting all parties involved in such an arrangement, the regulations prescribe associated obligations and rights.
