FINANCIAL INTELLIGENCE CENTRE ACT SCHEDULES AMENDED

National Treasury has gazetted a notice amending Schedules 1, 2 and 3 of the Financial Intelligence Centre Act. As a result, specific categories of practising attorneys and advocates will become accountable to the Financial Intelligence Centre from 19 December 2022.

Listed under Schedule 1 of the Act, these categories include conveyancers and notaries practising for their own account. Other categories of attorney, advocate and commercial law practice listed in the amended Schedule 1 fall under specific provisions in section 34 of the Legal Practice Act (forms of legal practice).

From 19 December, the amended schedules will also apply to dealers in high-value goods and crypto assets; and to several categories of business and financial sector professional carrying out activities under various other pieces of legislation.
