FLAWS IN CREDIT AMENDMENT ACT TO BE CORRECTED

A regulatory impact assessment of the National Credit Amendment Act, 2019, has identified unintended consequences for the economy and vulnerable consumers. In addition, stakeholder consultations have drawn attention to implementation challenges with implications for the Act's cost-effectiveness. Further amendments are being drafted to address these issues. This was confirmed during a recent meeting of the National Assembly Trade & Industry Committee, when the department briefed members on the Amendment Act and several other pieces of legislation.
