FUNDRAISING AMENDMENT BILL: CALL FOR WRITTEN SUBMISSIONS

In anticipation of a second round of parliamentary hearings on the Fundraising Amendment Bill, the NCOP’s Health & Social Services Committee has issued a notice calling for written submissions by 9 June 2023.

Tabled in 2020 and eventually passed by the National Assembly nearly two years later, once operationalised the Bill will create a ‘Disaster Relief and National Social Development Fund’ by consolidating the following:

  • the Disaster Relief Fund
  • the Refugee Relief Fund
  • the Social Relief Fund, and
  • the State President’s Fund.

According to a memorandum on the Bill’s objects, this is expected to enable fund administrators to:

  • focus on proactive disaster mitigation
  • streamline administrative processes
  • reduce costs, and
  • deliver ‘more efficient services to poor communities’.
