In anticipation of its formal introduction in Parliament, an explanatory summary of the Gas Bill has been gazetted outlining its overarching objectives. Approved by Cabinet in December 2025, once passed, enacted and operationalised the proposed new piece of legislation will repeal the 2001 Gas Act.

Not yet available, the Bill may have been informed to some extent by input on a draft Gas Amendment Bill released in January 2024 for public comment.
