GENERAL (FAMILY) LAWS AMENDMENT BILL HEADS TO PARLIAMENT

The Department of Justice & Constitutional Development has gazetted the explanatory summary of a General (Family) Laws Amendment Bill in anticipation of its introduction in Parliament.

Proposing consequential amendments to the 1979 Divorce Act in line with related legislation, the Bill also seeks to amend:

  • the 1984 Matrimonial Property Act (focusing on the transfer of assets in certain situations), and
  • the 1987 Mediation in Certain Divorce Matters Act (regarding the functions of the Office of the Family Advocate).
