GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSION REPORTING: MORE TIME TO ACCREDIT ASSESSORS

The Department of Forestry, Fisheries & the Environment has announced a three-year extension to the 31 December 2022 deadline by which independent assessors were originally required to be accredited in terms of guidelines issued in November 2021. According to the Government Gazette notice confirming this, companies meeting criteria set out in section 4 of the guidelines (accreditation and competence) have until 26 February 2023 to apply for qualification as independent assessors under phase 1 of the greenhouse gas emissions reporting verification programme. Initially scheduled to begin next month, phase 2 of the programme has been postponed to January 2027.
