HAZARDOUS CHEMICALS AND PESTICIDES: COMMENCEMENT OF FEBRUARY 2023 REGULATIONS POSTPONED

The Department of Forestry, Fisheries & the Environment has postponed the commencement of regulations domesticating the requirements of the 1998 Rotterdam Convention. Prescribing the prior informed consent procedures to be followed when trading internationally in hazardous chemicals and pesticides, the regulations were gazetted on 21 February 2023 and scheduled to come into effect 120 days later.
According to a Government Gazette notice published on 6 June 2023, the regulations will only come into force 300 days from 21 February 2023 – making their date of commencement 18 December 2023.
