HIGH COURT RATIONALISATION PROCESS: CALL FOR INPUT ON INTERIM REPORT

Please note: Five days into the public commentary period (18 June 2024), the interim report was eventually published on the department website.

The Department of Justice & Constitutional Development has called for comments by 30 June 2024 on an interim report apparently focusing on the second phase of the process of rationalising judicial establishments and local seats of the divisions of the High Court.

This was announced in a Government Gazette notice published well after hours on 13 June 2024 but backdated to the previous day. Unfortunately, at the time of writing, the interim report had yet to be posted on the department’s website.

According to a separate backdated notice published on the morning of 13 June 2024, the committee established in June 2021 to advise the Minister on the courts rationalisation process now has until 31 July 2024 to submit its final report.

SA Legal Academy has approached department officials for a copy of the interim report, which will be added to this summary once it becomes available.

  • Government Gazette notice calling for input on the interim report
  • notice extending the deadline for submitting the final report
