HUMAN SETTLEMENTS: SIGNIFICANT POLICY CHANGE ANNOUNCED

All subsidised houses under construction since 1 April 2023 and built after that date will be provided with solar panels and rainwater harvesting devices, ‘especially in rural communities’.
This is according to Human Settlements Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi, whose budget vote speech on 10 May 2023 announced a 29% increase in subsidies for the department’s ‘breaking new ground’, first home finance, ‘disabled housing’, military veterans housing and social housing programmes. Burglar bars will be fitted to all subsidised houses still under construction on 1 April 2023, and built after that date, specifically for people with disabilities.
