The Department of Home Affairs has gazetted a directive granting temporary residence visa and permanent residence permit applicants a blanket waiver of medical report requirements under the immigration regulations. Retrospectively in force since 8 July 2026, the directive was published nine days after media reports on the measure. According to an article in Polity, the directive ‘builds on reforms introduced in April 2023’, when the department waived the radiological report requirement for temporary residence visa and permanent residence permit applications.
In the absence of an official departmental statement on these and related measures, SA Legal Academy is unable to verify the accuracy of media reports on the reform process.
