INDEPENDENT POLICE INVESTIGATIVE DIRECTORATE ACT TO BE STRENGTHENED

A draft Independent Police Investigative Directorate Amendment Bill has been gazetted for public comment by 15 December 2022. Once operationalised, it is expected to enure that matters relating to the appointment of an executive director are dealt with in keeping with the requirements of a Constitutional Court ruling handed down in 2016. The ruling underpinned provisions in the Independent Police Investigative Directorate Amendment Act of 2019, which has yet to come into force.
