INFORMATION REGULATOR CALLS FOR INPUT ON DRAFT RULES

The Information Regulator has gazetted a notice calling for input by 24 March 2023 on draft rules of procedure setting out ‘the manner in which a complaint or any matter … may be referred to and considered for a finding and recommendation by the enforcement committee’ under the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013.

Published on the regulator’s website, among other things the purpose of the rules is to ‘promote and enhance access to the Information Regulator … by complainants who are alleging interference with the protection of their personal information’. Issues covered include the powers of the enforcement committee and its chair; the timeframe in which a recommendation should be made; complainants’ use of legal and other representation; and amicus curiae.
