IPID AMENDMENT ACT IN FORCE SOON

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate Amendment Act will come into effect on 29 November 2024 by presidential proclamation in the Government Gazette. As SA Legal Academy has regularly reported, this new piece of legislation responds to a 2016 Constitutional Court judgment on the directorate’s institutional and operational independence.

The Act also provides for:

  • investigations into allegations of rape by police officers
  • allegations of death resulting from the actions of police officers
  • disciplinary matters, and
  • remuneration.
