The Department of Police has gazetted a notice calling for input by 24 December 2025 on draft regulations under the 2011 Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) Act.
Published on the IPID website, once in force the proposed new regulations will repeal and replace the February 2012 version – also giving effect to the 2024 IPID Amendment Act, most sections of which were commenced in August 2025. As SA Legal Academy has already reported, the amendment Act’s overarching objective was to align the principal statute with a 2016 Constitutional Court ruling popularly known as the McBride judgment. To that end, it focused on IPID’s institutional and operational independence – also providing for parliamentary oversight.
