JSE SIMPLIFICATION PROJECT: INPUT SOUGHT ON INTERIM PROPOSALS

The Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) has called for public comments on interim proposals emerging from the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) ‘Simplification Project’, which began in September 2023 in support of the a ‘Cutting Red Tape Project’ initiated in 2022. The deadline for input is 13 May 2025.

According to an accompanying JSE memorandum, the overarching objective of both projects is to ‘ensure that the bourse is fair, efficient, transparent and competitive’. This is noting a ‘well recorded’ decline in JSE listings ‘over the past few years’.

The ‘Simplification Project’ seeks to ‘reposition’ listing requirements by:

  • ‘using plain language to record concise regulatory objectives’, and
  • ‘significantly’ reducing their volume and complexity.
