JUDICIAL MATTERS AMENDMENT BILL TABLED

Parliamentary papers have confirmed that the Judicial Matters Amendment Bill has finally been formally introduced in Parliament – nearly three months after the publication of its procedurally required pre-tabling explanatory summary.

According to a memorandum on the Bill’s objects, it seeks to address ‘practical and technical issues of a non-contentious nature’ focusing on the following statutes:

  • Promotion of Access to Information Act, 2000
  • Prevention & Combating of Corrupt Activities Act, 2004
  • Prevention & Combating of Corrupt Activities Act, 2004
  • Child Justice Act, 2008
  • Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013
  • Legal Practice Act, 2014
  • Cybercrimes Act, 2020, and
  • Cannabis for Private Purposes Act, 2024.
