JUSTICE: BILL REPEALING 149 PRE-1994 LAWS HEADS TO PARLIAMENT

The Parliamentary Monitoring Group has published the draft version of a Bill to be tabled shortly in Parliament with the aim of repealing 149 statutes administered by the Department of Justice & Constitutional Development. This follows the procedurally required pre-tabling publication of the Bill’s explanatory summary on 3 July 2026.

According to the draft Bill’s memorandum of objects, the pre-1994 Acts no longer serve ‘any useful purpose’ and therefore ‘pointlessly remain on the Statute Book’. The proposed new piece of legislation seeks to remedy this.
