LEGAL PRACTICE COUNCIL: MISCONDUCT RULE CHANGED

The Legal Practice Council has gazetted amendments to its misconduct rule. Immediately effective, the revised rule:

  • differentiates between minor and serious offences by defining each term
  • empowers an investigating committee to finalise a minor transgression complaint by imposing a sanction that may be:
    • a caution
    • a warning, or
    • a fine, and
  • outlines the procedures to be followed when dealing with a complaint against:
    • a candidate attorney
    • an attorney, and
    • a juristic entity.
