LEGAL PRACTITIONERS’ FIDELITY FUND: CLAIM CEILING GAZETTED

The maximum amount per single claim for which the Legal Practitioners’ Fidelity Fund may be held liable has been set at R5m. This is according to a notice gazetted on 13 January 2023. Sub-section 55(1) of the Legal Practice Act, 2014, as amended, prescribes the circumstances in which the Fund becomes liable for reimbursing someone who has suffered pecuniary loss as a result of the theft of money or other property given in trust to a practising attorney or advocate.
