LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS 2026: INPUT SOUGHT ON AMENDMENTS TO POLITICAL BROADCAST, ADVERTISEMENT REGULATIONS

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa has gazetted draft amendments to the municipal party elections political party broadcast and advertisement regulations – calling for public comments by 9 January 2026.

Among other things, the proposed amendments have implications for:

  • independent candidates
  • technical standards and quality
  • material likely to provoke or incite unlawful, illegal or criminal activities
  • indemnity against incurred costs, damages, losses, and third-party claims arising from a broadcast, and
  • complaints.
