LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS: INPUT SOUGHT ON DRAFT REGULATORY AMENDMENTS

The Independent Electoral Commission has gazetted draft amendments to the municipal government regulations – calling for input by 16 September 2026.
Among other things, the amendments envisaged seek to:
- provide for the online submission of voter education accreditation applications
- further strengthen the procedures for dealing with disputed votes
- clarify the procedures for dealing with special votes and marked envelopes, and
- provide for procedures to be followed in dealing with objections with significant implications for election outcomes.
